The world is in deep shock due to ‘corona’ virus. It has become one of the greatest pandemic. The death tolls are in rapid increase. European countries are the greatest sufferer. Economic losses are at sky high. Many countries are in complete lock down. The wave is progressing towards south Asian countries. From the disease pattern its wide apparent that it’s very difficult to fight the disease after its wide outbreak. Best healthcare systems of this world have collapsed. For both developed and developing the prevention of disease by limitation of transmission is the best way.

In previous articles we had a discussion about social distancing and how it was the best weapon against the mighty Spanish flu a century back which helped limiting the death toll. We came across 8 ‘S’ MANTRA to prevent the transmission. Still these are the best methods we have.

A virus can infect if the host immune system is weak. Every day we come across huge numbers of viruses. They fail to infect us due to immunity. The immunity is divided into innate immunity and adaptive immunity.

Types of immunity which fight the virus.

Innate immunity

It will try to kill the virus at skin, nose, throat by several body secretion like sweat, saliva, tear etc. If some of them go inside body than they will be killed by several defense cells which will destroy the virusIt’s called first line defence of our body. We can make it more effective by taking several measures.

Adaptive immunity

The second type of immunity is adaptive. It is obtained from mother by breast milk etc. If we have any infection our immune system remembers it and it prevents further infection by that virus. If we get vaccine then also it helps in preventing infection. As COVID-19 is a new virus, we don’t have it now to fight it.

As we have plenty of time due to social distancing we must take measures to strengthen our immune system. It will provide more safety from the deadly virus.

Exercise

Physical activity can help flush out bacteria from your lungs, reducing your chance of viral infection. It increases circulation of blood and sweating leading to better immunity. Indoor exercises are a great help in the lockdown times. It also helps in secretion of happy hormones making stress free.

Keep stress away

Stress is a grave danger to immunity cells. In present situation stress is very obvious. But remember you can prevent the infection very easily by social distancing and hand washing. So no point of being anxious. Try to relax by deep breathing and watching movies and music. Talk to family and friends.

Meditation

Meditation is a wonderful tool in decreasing stress and boost immunity. It will help in focusing. It helps in controlling cortisol levels.

Good sleep

Good sleep is a natural booster of immune system. The immune system rejuvenates itself during the sleep. Sleep also decreases stress. So try to sleep more.

Healthy diet

Balanced diet helps in good immunity. Take less sugar. Citrus fruits like orange, lemon and green vegetables help much. Yoghurt, being a hub of helpful bacteria, help in immunity boosting. Take sufficient water. Berries like elderberry helps in prevention of respiratory tract infection.

No to smoke or alcohol

Smokers are much prone to respiratory viruses. They reduce the immunity power of lungs. Quit smoking. Excessive alcohol consumption is also detrimental.

Vitamins and minerals

Several vitamins like vit C and vitamin D and vitamin B help in good immunity. Vitamin C has proven efficacy in cold virus. The zinc mineral is a very good immunity booster. Supplemental zinc may also help reduce the duration of the common cold.

Boosting immunity with perfect social distancing is the best way to beat Covid-19. No matter it’s a pandemic, finally we will definitely defeat it. Remain in home and do everything to make your immunity stronger. We can fight back and beat mighty corona. Stay healthy stay safe and stay at home.
