Effects of Rain on Brain

CURIOUS STORY OF RAIN, AND ITS EFFECTS ON OUR BRAIN: SUNDAY MIRROR

Our brain defines us. All our thoughts and deeds are a direct projection of our mind and brain. Seasonal changes and weather do have permanent effects on our brains. Rain and the brain have a fascinating connection. Research suggests that rain and weather changes can influence brain function and behavior in several ways:

1. Barometric Pressure in Rain:

Barometric Pressure on brain due to rain.

When there is rain there are fluctuations in atmospheric pressure. Changes in atmospheric pressure can lead to:
– Headaches in some individuals. Changes in atmospheric pressure increase most migraine headaches.
– Increased sensitivity to pain. Pain is a perception that has effects in different ways.
– Fatigue and lethargy. Many people feel lethargic in cloudy weather.

2. Hormonal Fluctuations due to Rain:

Hormonal Fluctuations

Rainy days can affect serotonin levels in the brain. It might increase or decrease it, leading to:
– Increased melatonin production, causing drowsiness in the daytime. It’s the sleep hormone. Some people have less night sleep.
– Reduced serotonin levels. It causes worsening of symptoms of depression and anxiety.
-Dopamine release. It’s the pleasure hormone. Its release causes an elated mood and increases a positive attitude.
– Endorphin release, impacting mood and pain perception.

3. Memory and other Cognitive Functions:

  – Memory and concentration. Some people have decreased attention and focus. This is possibly due to increased cortisol levels.

4. Circadian Rhythms:

Darkness can affect the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle, leading to:
– Disrupted normal sleep patterns. It causes more lethargy in the daytime.
– Increased risk of sleep disorders.

5. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD):

Prolonged periods of darkness can contribute to SAD. It’s a type of depression. The less amount of sunlight is the primary culprit.

6. Increased Creativity due to Rain:

Some people find that rainy days inspire creativity, possibly due to the calming atmosphere and reduced distractions. The musical sound of rain, the fragrance of the soil, and the cold breeze infuse artistic thoughts in many brains.

Individual responses to rain and weather changes can vary. Some feel negative and some feel positive. But it is fascinating that the drops of rain influence every brain in its way.
