Always Tired? 7 Common Reasons Behind Fatigue : Sunday Mirror

Feeling tired after a busy day is normal. But if you feel exhausted even after adequate rest, your body may be trying to tell you something.

Persistent fatigue is not a disease by itself—it is often a warning sign that deserves attention.

1. Poor Sleep

You may sleep for 7–8 hours and still wake up tired. Snoring, sleep apnea, late-night screen use, stress and irregular sleep can reduce sleep quality.

2. Anaemia or Iron Deficiency

Low haemoglobin or iron can reduce oxygen delivery to the body, causing tiredness, dizziness, breathlessness and palpitations.

3. Thyroid Problems

An underactive thyroid may cause fatigue along with weight gain, constipation, dry skin and excessive sleepiness.

4. Vitamin Deficiency

Low vitamin B12 or vitamin D levels may contribute to fatigue. B12 deficiency can also cause tingling, numbness or imbalance.

5. Lack of Physical Activity

Too little exercise can actually worsen tiredness. Regular walking or moderate exercise improves energy, sleep and overall fitness.

6. Chronic Stress

Constant stress, multitasking, excessive screen exposure and mental overload can leave the brain exhausted even when the body is resting.

7. An Underlying Medical Condition

Diabetes, infections, heart or kidney disease, mood disorders, certain medications and other illnesses may sometimes present mainly as fatigue.

When Should You Seek Medical Advice?

Consult a doctor if fatigue persists for several weeks, keeps worsening, interferes with daily life, or is accompanied by weight loss, fever, breathlessness, weakness or other unusual symptoms.

Take-Home Message

Feeling tired occasionally is normal. Feeling tired all the time is not something to simply ignore. Improve your sleep, nutrition, physical activity and stress management—and if fatigue continues, consider getting evaluated. Your fatigue may be your body’s way of asking for attention.
